I derived my kennel name, SHORLAINE, from my name, combining the "SH" from Bush and putting it in front of my first name, Loraine, switching the "L" to the middle.
After long wanting a miniature schnauzer, and not finding any in Tampa, FL where we lived, I finally found a pup from Jonaire Kennel in Mt. Pocono, PA.  He would be available after I finished my teaching year and before our daughter was born in Nov, 1963.  This was JONAIRE POCONO PRETZEL BOY CDX, who became my obedience "whiz" and dearest companion.  He jumped out of his airline crate and with his outgoing exuberant personality immediately "belonged."  He personified the intelligent, quick learning schnauzer mind that also had a bit of deviltry and his own thoughts at times about how to handle a task (or command).  He possessed an overwhelming amount of love and devotion.
About a year later I bought my first little female from Dorem Kennel (a founding kennel and real backbone in Miniature Schnauzers) together with Connie Mercer, Tigerlane MS.  This was Dorem Trilby who became the dam of my first two champions.  My first champion was CH SHORLAINE TIPPETY TUCKETT whose champion daughter also led to succeeding generations of champions at Shorlaine.  Tuckett's litter sister, Tigerlane Sugar Cookie, led to several more Tigerlane champions for Connie.
The greatest addition to my Shorlaine schnauzers was the purchase of my CH BETHEL'S NEWS FLASH (CH Helarry's Colonel Dan x CH Bethel's Lulu), not yet a year old and unshown from Robert Moore, noted All Breed Judge and breeder of the Bethel's miniature schnauzers.  She finished rapidly shown mostly by me but had to go out to find majors.  I showed her as a new champion at our first Florida West Coast Miniature Schnauzer Specialty in 1970 to go Best Opposite Sex under breeder-judge, Jean Fancy.  News Flash ("Ree") and her offspring led to many champions for myself and many others.  There were 5 generations of winners at this FWCMSC Specialty over the years.
News Flash ("Ree") had great influence of her heritage in succeeding generations and for many breeders.  From her first litter by CH Penlan Paragon came daughter Shorlaine Jeanie Jump Up who produced Carolane's Heaven Sent who was the dam of 9 champions for Carol Beiles' Carolane kennel.  Many champions descended from these.  The Heaven Sent daughter, CH CAROLANE'S HERITAGE, came to me and produced CH Shorlaine Sheik of Carolane (by CH Penlan Peter Gunn) who went on to the Karlshof kennel of Dr. Karl Barth where a son and daughter are in back of his many champions to this day.
From the second litter of News Flash came Shorlaine Lyric to Leslie (sire CH Jorl's Jeff, a Phil Mar Lugar son) who produced several influential daughters by CH Penlan Peter Gunn who became good producers.  CH SHORLAINE POPPY GUNN produced CH Shorlaine Top Flash ("Danny" son) who was a winner at our FWCMSC Specialty and produced 4 lovely champions himself.
Shorlaine Bee Bee Gunn, litter sister of Poppy, produced a most influential daughter, Rising Sun Dazzling Display, who was the foundation of the Datura kennel and was behind ALL 25 homebred champions for the Woodards.
Another full younger sister to Poppy, Shorlaine Fancy Fire, produced CH SHORLAINE TICKLE MY FANCY, an exquisite daughter (sired by "Ree" son CH Shorlaine Dynamic Flash) who was a feminine version of her sire.
And the final litter of News Flash produced the top winning and top producing Ch Shorlaine Dynamic Flash (sired by CH Sky Rocket's Uproar).  See his own "DANNY" page for his accomplishments and very long line of descendants continuing on into today's pedigrees.
CH Bethel's News Flash - "Ree" - was a beautiful example of a miniature schnauzer with elegance, very sound movement, exquisite head, "presence" and animation with the disposition and personality that personifies the breed.  She loved life and people and other dogs and the show ring.
A special thanks goes to CLAUDIA SEABERG who so beautifully handled so many of my dogs and campaigned "Danny" (Dynamic Flash) to his top record; also for her help and advice and sharing so many thoughts of this lovely breed.  We enjoyed horseback riding together when she would visit our farm.  She is now an AKC judge who brings great knowledge of the miniature schnauzer breed.
